American Airlines sues JetBlue after talks over the end of the alliance


American Airlines is “sueing JetBlue to recover the money it owed to the US following the Northeast Alliance (NEA) rewind,” a letter sent to team members on Monday said.

The Americans shared a letter from Vice-Chair and Chief Strategy Officer Steve Johnson following “industry rumors and media coverage of the US debate with JetBlue.”

American Airlines and JetBlue were discussing a new partnership aimed at strengthening the network and loyalty program after the 2023 trial in which the NEA violated federal antitrust laws.

A letter to Johnson’s employees said American Airlines It focuses on the markets in New York and Boston.

“We’ve added over 20 new routes from the past year. LGA and JFK After the NEA was finished they used the slots to return to us,” Johnson said in a letter.

“Together with our partners, this summer we will provide New York travelers with over 250 non-stop flights daily to 100 markets around the world, from two exceptional terminal facilities, including the best lounges in the system. JFK will continue to improve our co-location with partners such as British Airways, Iberia, Jar, Katar, and recent Asqua, Yebaian, Yeberia and Qatar.

February, Jetblue said They are still in discussions with multiple airlines to establish a partnership and are willing to allocate more funds to complete the transaction.

The NEA was announced in July 2020 and received approval from the US Department of Transport just days before the end of Republican President Donald Trump’s first term in January 2021.

The alliance allowed two carriers to coordinate flights and share revenues.

Court records filed in Texas and obtained by Reuters show that they are seeking more than $1 million in monetary relief, excluding attorneys’ fees and costs from JetBlue.

JetBlue said it was working with Americans to defeat the NEA as the court found it anti-competitive in response to the lawsuit.

“We are planning to consider the US complaint. This is a pending lawsuit and we cannot comment further at this time,” a JetBlue spokesperson told Reuters.
