Americans are still riding on Trump’s immigration efforts, but the threat of the president’s tariffs and fluctuations in the wild stock market may be a problem

Immigration remains a strength for the presidentDonald TrumpHowever, his handling of tariffs has received more negative feedback, according to a poll from the Associated Press-NORC Centre for Public Relations Research.

About half of US adults have approved Trump’s approach to immigration, according to a survey, only four in 10 have a positive view on how the economy and trade negotiations are dealing with.

Polls show that many Americans are still riding on Trump’s efforts to strengthen deportation and limit immigration. But it also suggests that it comes with the threat of imposing tariffs on Republican presidents.Rolling consumer trustandWild stock markets are shaking– He may have erased his advantages with another issue that centered on the 2024 campaign he won.

Trump’s overall view of work performance is more negative than positive, the research found. About four in 10 American adults have approved the way Trump handles his job as president, with more than half disapproving. Negative opinions are also stronger than positive ones. Approximately four out of ten US adults strongly disapprove of Trump’s job performance, and around two out of ten strongly approve.

Trump’s job approval is highest among immigrants

More American adults say they approve Trump’s handling of immigrants rather than approaching the entire presidency.

That trend extends to the Democrats. A relatively small number, about two in ten, say they’re on board about how Trump is approaching immigration, but that’s higher than about one in ten who approves the economy and his overall job.

The durability of Trump’s appeal against immigration highlights the support of many American adults in favor of his strict approach.

According to the AP Voting, a fundamental survey of over 120,000 voters, voters who said immigration was the most important issue last November were overwhelmingly supportive of more restrictive policies. Signs of potential weakness in trade and economy

There are also Trump’s warning signs in polls, particularly in Americans’ assessment of his work on tariffs and the economy.

Trade negotiations with other countries are an issue he has been particularly negatively rated, with about six in 10 US adults saying he disapproved of his work performance. Even among Republicans, that’s a relatively low point. About seven in 10 Republicans have approved Trump’s handling of trade. This is still relatively high, but lower than about nine out of ten who approved the immigration approach.

Trump’s approach on other issues, including federal administration, handling foreign conflicts, social security, and the economy, roughly tracks his overall work approval.

But while the economy isn’t as prominently as it is in trade negotiations, Trump’s relatively low rating on the issue could potentially become a problem for him in the future.

During his first term, the economy was an issue that Americans frequently gave Trump a good trace. In October 2020, just before he lost his re-election,AP-NORC polls foundApproximately half of US adults have approved Trump’s handling of the economy, and have far surpassed race relations and his performance;Covid-19 Pandemic.

Now, Trump’s economic management is being tested again. And the AP-NORC poll is not the only indication that his tariff threat is straining everyday Americans.
