America’s oldest July 4th parade returns to Bristol for its 240th celebration

The quaint coastal New England town known for hosting the oldest Independence Day parade will reopen its festivities this year, marking its 240th anniversary.

The town of Bristol, Rhode Island began to host celebrations in 1785.

First Pastor Henry Wight Congregation Church, According to the parade website, the revolutionary veteran first performed known patriotic exercises.

The military parade brings out patriotic Americans from close to far: “We don’t have much more time to come to DC.”

The festival is thought to have evolved from a procession of community members Patriotic exercises.

The same website states that somewhere in the early 1800s, a more formal parade was formed, including a parade of military, civilians and firefighters.

The July 4th parade was made in 1998 in Bristol, Rhode Island.

The parade has its own “cries of the city” that announces, “Hear you, hear you, hear you.”
