Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was impressed by Victor Gyoker’s conviction when taking Thierry Henry’s No. 14 shirt

Mikel Arteta was impressed by the “conviction” shown by his decision to charge a new signature signed to Viktor Gyoker, particularly the number 14 shirt worn by Thierry Henry.

Henry scored a record 228 goals for the gunner with two memorable spells, but despite the additional pressure that could result, it has not thwarted Gyoker.

Swedish International joined Arsenal from its £55 million first CP over the weekend after prolonged negotiations, allowing it to debut in a pre-season friendliness tomorrow with North London rival Tottenham in Hong Kong.

Gyoker’s decision to wear No. 14 prompted the sale of record shirts Arsenal and Arteta have been encouraged by the confidence of the strikers.

He said: “I use the word conviction. That’s the first thing I noticed when I spoke to him. If you’re a very determined person, the club, history, and in this case, Thierry (Henry), and what Shirts described, you felt it.

Arteta hopes the former Coventry guy can play against the Spurs, but said his availability will be debated before kickoff.

“He’s just finished today’s session and just a few yesterday,” he added. “We’re going to talk about how he’s going tonight and if the medical staff are happy with his condition, it could be by attending tomorrow’s game. We’re going to discuss tonight.”

Arteta is pleased with Arsenal’s transfer deal

Arsenal has been actively working in the transfer market this summer as they aim to outperform three consecutive runner-ups in the Premier League.

In addition to Gyoker, they also signed Noni Maduke, Martin Zubendish, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard and Cristian Mosquera.

“I’m very pleased with the way we got closer to the window and how aggressive we were,” Arteta said.

“There’s still a long period of time with the windows open. So far, we’re very pleased with what we’ve achieved and at the end of the window we’re continuing to be very happy.”
