Arteta is frustrated by the lack of Arsenal consistency held by Crystal Palace

As Arsenal led twice, Mikel Arteta lamented the lack of consistency on his part, but regained both times in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Wednesday.

Jakub Kiwior gave gunners an early advantage with headers, but Eberechi Eze’s bound volley leveled up from the edge of the box.

Leandro Trossard then found a net to recover the benefits of Arteta’s side before the break, but after an error from William Saliba, the visitors again pulled out the level in the second half, courtesy of a neat tip finish from Jean-Philippe Mateta.

As a result, simply delaying the celebration of Liverpool’s seemingly inevitable title, Arneslot’s team needs only one point from five games to secure the club’s 20th Premier League crown.

At both the Arsenal and the Palace, their attention will move into their respective Cup semi-final matches. Oliver Glasner’s men traveled to Wembley on Saturday to face Aston Villa, where they are in the FA Cup final, and Arteta’s team will welcome PSG on the first leg of the four Champions League on Tuesday.

And while the outcome is likely to have little to do with both Arsenal and the Palace’s respective campaigns, the Gunners boss was not so unhappy with his team’s show.

“We are disappointed with the outcome and performance. We weren’t consistent enough to take action to gain the right to fully control the game,” says Arteta.

“We started throwing out sloppy balls and dropped standards for certain defensive habits.

“It was part of football and we spent two points on us.”

Asked if his players could be allowed to look at future clashes with PSG, Arteta remained open in his answer.

“No, because we need consistency in every competition we play, so we are in the best shape.

“Today, I think they (the palace) are very organized and they deserve credibility, but we should be critical of ourselves as well and see what we have to do better.

Speaking about the need for his team to eliminate individual errors before what he calls “the most important game of the season,” Arteta added:

“Now we need to recover, regain our energy and focus completely on that game.”
