Arteta tips in his complete gyokeres debut for the pre-season North London Derby
Mikel Arteta has revealed that Arsenal’s new striker Viktor Gyoker will be evaluated in training before deciding whether to appear in a clash with Tottenham.
Swedish International completed a £63.5 million move from the Sports CP over the weekend, and was present as gunners took Newcastle 3-2 in Singapore.
Arteta wants to integrate the 27-year-old as quickly as possible, but has admitted that Gyoker has not been involved in any training since the end of the campaign that won the Sporting title.
“Well, when they became champions, I don’t think he’d had one training session with his team since his last game against the last game,” Arteta said.
“So we evaluated him tomorrow and he did all the medical care. Everything looks good, but I think it’s very important to speed up him with the right level of fitness.
“So we’re not going to stop him. We want him to be with us as soon as possible, but we need to evaluate it and the medical team does that.”
Gyoker was facing disciplinary action in Portugal after helping to push his move to north London by skipping Sporting’s preseason training. Prolific Forward scored 54 goals in 52 games last season.
Gyokeres signed a five-year deal, and is Arsenal’s sixth major addition, following the arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Maduke and Crishian Mosquera.
Kepa, Zubimendi and Norgaard have already made their debuts on the club’s preseason tour, but Maduke will meet up with the team later this summer.
Gyoker and Mosquera traveled to Asia with their team, but did not appear in the Newcastle fixtures.
