Assassin’s Creed Creator Ubisoft said it would seek supporters for the game

(Bloomberg) – Ubisoft Entertainment SA is about to introduce investors to a new entity that includes some of the intellectual property of core video games, including Assassin’s Creed, according to people familiar with the situation.

The company is considering selling minority stakes in the venture and has contacted current shareholder Tencent Holdings Ltd. and potential bidders, including global and French funds. Ubisoft requested that a backup bid be made immediately this month.

Founded by the French Guillemot family, Ubisoft, may seek assessments of unformed IP units that are higher than the size of the main company, people said. Considerations are ongoing, no final decisions have been made, and plans may still change, they added.

A representative from Ubisoft introduced questions in comments on the company’s quarterly revenue. There, reviews of various transformational strategic and capitalist options will help all stakeholders to extract the best value from Ubisoft’s assets and franchises. Tencent declined to comment.

Ubisoft’s shares rose 4% to 12.78 euros at 11:29am in Paris trading after up to 4.6%, up 4.6% in Paris trading on Friday.

The Guillemot family and Tencent are considering a range of Ubisoft options, including potential acquisitions, according to Bloomberg News, reported last year. In January, people familiar with the issue said the parties were considering creating a new venture that includes certain video game assets.

The deliberations follow a slump in Ubisoft’s stock price, falling over four years, including a 43% decline in 2024. Today, the Paris-based company has a market value of around 1.7 billion euros ($1.8 billion).

Ubisoft’s revenue totaled 318 million euros in the October-December quarter, down nearly 50% from the previous year. As part of its cost-cutting efforts, the company has cancelled its shooting game Xdefiant, and it has also closed three production studios. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled to debut on March 20th, and pre-orders for the game are “strickenly tracking,” Ubisoft said.
