Best Dyson Vacuum Cleaner of 2025: I’ve tested the most famous vacuum brand
There are many important factors that we see when it helps determine the Dyson vacuum. Below are some of the things that we use to weigh scoring:
Cordless and corded
Cordless Dyson models (V series, GEN5) prioritize quick cleanup and multi-level home portability, but are limited by battery life. Generally, CNET only tests cordless vacuums in a test lab, but that doesn’t mean that coded is not the right choice. Our lab shows that most Dyson vacuums we recommend can last 30-60 minutes on a single charge, depending on the mode you are using. In contrast, corded models like the Dyson Ball Animal 3 and Dyson Big Ball Turbinehead offer uninterrupted maximum power cleaning for deep carpet sessions and large areas, but at the expense of canister accounting and weight. Cordless vacuum is a good option for apartment and spot cleaning, but corded vacuum cleaners are good for deep clean throughout the house.
Battery life
As mentioned before, battery performance varies dramatically depending on the mode. Eco Mode (50-85 min) Handles light dust in hard floor, automatic mode (30-45 min) available on some models and automatically adjusts the suction force to accommodate mixing surfaces. Boost or Maximum mode is the best suction setting for major confusion, but drains the fastest (10-15 minutes). This makes it ideal for high-pile carpets and ground-in stains. Models like the Gen5 Outhize include dual batteries that extend the runtime to 140 minutes in eco mode, but add a significant amount of weight at 8.6 pounds. Charging takes more than 4 hours after complete exhaustion, so it is not the best option for a quick cleaning session.
Suction
Measured with Air Watts (AW) aspiration is a measure that measures how effectively a vacuum can remove dirt from various surfaces. The 262 AW in Gen5 detection is excellent at staining embedded carpets, while the 115 AW in the V8 is sufficient for small spaces and hard floors.
The V11 is designed to handle pet hair without tangles.
Weight
The Dyson cordless range extends to the lightweight V12, detecting slims at 5.5 pounds and V15 in the middle of the pack at 7.5 pounds. Next, it features a particularly heavy GEN5 feature, with 8.6 pounds with dual batteries and a larger bin. The newer model also uses buttons rather than triggers found in the older model, reducing finger fatigue during use.
Attachments
Latest Dyson models usually come with attachments that look like laser fluffy heads. This will help you find dust on hard floors. If you have fallen pets, the hairscrew tool prevents tangles in your pet’s hair, and the combined tool will remove any gaps. I have three cats so I think ventilation and anti-antibody techniques are unnegotiable. The hairscrew tool actively moves hair away from the brush bar, while the digital motor uses 56 wings to slice the wrapped hair. The groom’s tools capture hair removal before hitting the floor. Typically, the Dyson name provides an idea as to which tools are included. The absolute packs both floor heads, and the animals focus on pet tools. Top models like the V15 Detect and Gen5 Detect include most of these tools, but they should be completely all of them.
filtration
All modern Dyson features all-machine HEPA filtration, capturing up to 0.3 microns of particles. Flagships like Gen5 detect upgrades to sealed HEPA, trapping 99.99% of the particles up to 0.1 microns. Filters require monthly cleaning and air drying for at least 24 hours to maintain effectiveness.
Dyson’s dual vin system separates wet and dry waste, making cleaning easier.
Floor type
Various floor types may be more suitable for certain types of Dyson vacuum cleaners
Hard floor: Hard floors include hardwood, tiles and vinyl. Laser fluffy optical attachments used in V15 and Gen5 detection use a green laser to expose hidden dust, while soft rollers prevent scratches.
carpet: Carpet includes low pile, mid pile and high pile carpets. We mainly test low and mid-piles. Digital Motorbar heads an automatic adjustment aspiration for deep cleaning, but models like Gen5 detect Excel with high pile.
Mixed bed: Like most people, if your home has both carpet and hard flooring, the options will vary. The V15 detection and Gen 5 automatically switch suction between surfaces, but almost any Dyson vacuum should be able to handle both.
noise
Although we do not actively test noise levels at decibels (DB) meters (this is in future plans), Dyson has information about the noise in the vacuum output. According to information published by Dyson, the V12 detects Slim (75 dB) (75 dB) is the quietest cordless model, while flagships like the Gen5 detect peaks at 85 dB at maximum settings.
Storage
Most cordless Dyson models include a mounted wall dock that allows you to dock the vacuum cleaner while charging. Floor Dock detects Gen5 and 5 additional tools and stores it. Consider a third-party organizer for compact models such as the V12. Space constraints are important – a lower model (Gen5 Outhize) is required due to wider heads and batteries. Unlike competitors like Shark and Levoit, Dyson doesn’t offer self-charge charging docks.
maintenance
- Filter: Air dry for more than 24 hours a month (cold water) to prevent damage to the mold/motor.
- Brush roll: Clean your hair wrapped every week. The laser fluffy roller pops out easily.
- Bin in the sky: Empty if necessary, rinse the bottle and allow it to dry monthly or completely if necessary.
- Clog: If suction power decreases, check the cleaner head airways and cane.
guarantee
All Dyson cordless vacuums come with a 2-year limited warranty, with upright and cylinder models being 5-year. Competitors such as Shark offer a five-year warranty on their cordless lineup. An extended warranty (up to 5 years in total) can be purchased through the Dyson site. A longer warranty period is a good thing. Because it means your vacuum is covered if the part is broken or something is defective.
The Dyson V15 detection lets the floor laser shine and reveals dust and dirt particles.
Other Features and Technologies
- Laser Fluffy Optics: A cleaner head that can reveal dust hidden in a hard floor, usually indicated by name detection.
- LCD screen: View real-time runtime, power modes, maintenance alerts, particle counts and is now available in newer models such as the V15 Detect.
- Piezo Sensor: Available in V15 Detect and Gen 5, it counts dust particles and shows the effectiveness of cleaning.
- Wet Cleaning: V15S Submarine (Simultaneous Vacuum/MOP) and Wash G1 (Dedicated Hard Floor Mop). CNET is currently testing the latter.
- App connectivity: Gen5 supports Mydyson appUsage statistics, filter reminders, and air quality reports (purifier models).
