Bitcoin torture suspect released from prison on $1 million bonds after arrest

“Mr. Culturan was there in a pledge role,” Woeltz’s attorney Wayne Gosnell said at a previous hearing, according to the Post. “He essentially pledged and hayed.”
Duplessie, a Miami resident, was not released Thursday. Both men pleaded not guilty.

As for his bail status, Woeltz is subject to home confinement and electronic monitoring. He can leave the house to appoint a doctor, meet with an attorney, or for an emergency.

Prosecutors said the two lured Cartulan and tortured him in the townhouse for three weeks.
“The informant further states that the defendant and the unsolicited man have requested the informant to provide the defendant with the informant. Bitcoin Password To allow the accused and unauthorized men to take the informant’s Bitcoin,” the criminal charges stated.
When Cartulan refused to leak his Bitcoin password, the pair added that he “drawed at him, including but not limited to using a wire to shock the informant and using a firearm to hit the informant on his head, pointing to the firearm on the head of the informant several times, and hanging from a place where he hugged the informant on several occasions. The informant did not provide the informant’s Bitcoin password to the defendant,” the complaint added.

Prosecutors say the two allegedly wrote a manifesto about Cartulan’s plans to steal cryptocurrency. The suspect was eventually able to escape and called a nearby traffic officer.
Both defendants are scheduled to appear in court on October 15th.
