“Black Mirror” Season 7: Ranking 6 new sci-fi episodes
As the first episode of the new season, the public will swell their heads with a mix of humor and dystopian horror. The story follows Amanda (Rashida Jones), an elementary school teacher, and her construction worker husband, Mike (Chris O’Doud). Mike has corrections but costs money after the medical emergency that put Amanda’s health at risk. Enter Rivermind, a high-tech company that offers services to help Amanda get back from the brink. Soon, the evils of corporate greed and medical malpractice are revealed through the company’s mouthpiece and sales rep Gainer (Tracy Ellis Ross), and the couple uproots a comfortable life with Amanda’s monetization of health. If you were expecting a story that would make you gentle and easy to return to the universe of Black Mirrors, this is not the case. Common People is a slow moving tragedy that creeps you up like an undiscovered brain tumor and quickly enters under your skin, wondering whether the technique of this episode remains as a simple fiction and does not reveal yourself as a social prediction.
