BNP Paribas expands alliance with IBM Cloud
BNP Paribas has renewed its partnership with IBM Cloud and expanded its collaboration for another decade.
The agreement aims to accelerate banks’ cloud-native strategies and support advances in Generated Artificial Intelligence (GENAI).
This partnership is part of BNP Paribas’ technology investment and multi-cloud strategy.
Since 2019, BNP Paribas has hosted the IBM cloud in its data centers. This is a move that has contributed to establishing the technological infrastructure that is essential for banks’ digital transformation.
As part of the renewed agreement, BNP Paribas plans to allocate new space to data centers in IBM Cloud, expected to be completed by 2028.
The investment aims to ensure the integrity of customer data and bank information systems while ensuring the resilience of banks and ensuring the continuity of critical banking services such as payments.
With the updated partnership, BNP Paribas can enhance its capabilities by leveraging GPUs in IBM clouds integrated with the bank’s existing cloud infrastructure.
This integration is designed to support a variety of business units in the investigation and implementation of generated AI applications.
Marc Camus, Chief Information Officer at BNP Paribas, said: “By combining GPUs as services, a dedicated cutting edge environment within the data center and cloud-native infrastructure, we are enhancing security and compliance in our technical infrastructure and information systems.”
Additionally, BNP Paribas is using containers through Red Hat OpenShift, IBM’s Kubernetes container management platform, to modernize applications through a cloud-native approach.
The objective of this strategy is to promote the development of modular, scalable and portable applications, which increases flexibility and responsiveness in managing banking services, particularly in the area of payment systems.
This initiative is consistent with European Dora (Digital Operations Resilience Act) regulations, which aim to increase operational resilience of financial institutions, particularly in business continuity and IT risk management.
“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Alan Peacock, general manager of IBM Cloud. “For decades, IBM and BNP Paribas have worked together to build future banking infrastructure, supported by the necessary revival.”
In July 2024, BNP Paribas and Ant International partnered to improve Cross-border payment solutions For European merchants and consumers.
