Scores were 100-90, 99-91, and 98-92. Boxing News 24 had a 7-3 in favour of Cordina.
The rabbit punch bothered Cordina
Cordina, 34, escaped with lots of things. Rabbit punch, forearm, racing, And I hit my back tonight. The judge took a casual approach to the fight and chose not to police the constant fouling from Cordina. In the fifth and sixth rounds, it was the clinic for Fouls by Joe. It was confusing that the judge did not stop taking action to deduct points. Cordina had field day with Rough House tactics against fighters, but it didn’t need to be used. Considering he is not a world-class fighter, he should have been able to get through Quiroz quickly.
The rabbit punch was constant from him, so it should bring a warning and at least one penalty. His first move was to nail Quiroz with a rabbit punch. It was hard to see.
Cordina was not used to fighting this way. The inactive years and his knockout losses in his previous battle with Anthony Cacas in 2024 seemed desperate to get him an extra edge tonight. He already had two due to his huge size and the advantages of experience. Quiroz is not a top-notch candidate.
Mason vs. Noakes Winner
“We want to take him to be the two-division world champion because we want to take him to the position of fighting the winner of the battle between Abdullah Mason vs. Sam Noakes. Now we want to fight bigger than this year.” Cordina’s victory Beyond Quiroz. “You had to get there to have that fight. He won every time. He seemed to enjoy it at times. He didn’t want an easy touch.”
I’m Welsh. When I bring in Mexicans, they stop them with their trucks,” Cordina said.
Based on this performance, Cordina never got a chance against the top five lightweights in the division. Hahn’s idea of matching Cordina with winners of the November fight between Abdullah Mason and Sam Noakes and winners of the WBO 135-LB title is bad. Cordina was not in the ring against the winner of that fight, Mason.
He wouldn’t have lasted long against Mason, even if he used the rabbit punches and other roughhouse tactics he used tonight against Quiroz.
Cordina needs a tougher fight
Ideally, Cordina should win a title shot, rather than having him give him with a Silver Platter after beating a hand-picked Quiroz. Let Cordina take down one of these fighters.
- Herrera Core
- Denys Berinchyk
- Edwin de los Santos
It’s rare for Cordina to beat any of these guys with tonight’s look, but at least if he wins, he deserves to fight for the world title with the winner of Mason Noki. Cordina not only won a world title because she easily held the IBF 130 pound title. Sports should not function that way. Cordina didn’t hold a world title for a long time at super featherweight, so the guy he beat was strapped, Ogawa Kenichi.
