Boxing Results: Sandoval’s Relentless Pressure Causing Teraj’s Reign
Ricardo Sandoval (27-2, 18 KOS) abdicated WBA and WBC flyweight champions (25-2, 16 Kos), and won a two-round split decision in Japan in Yokohama Tantai, Japan on Wednesday night.
The scores were 117-110, 115-112 for Sandoval and 114-113 for Teraj. The judge who won it widely for the 26-year-old Sandova can be argued that he was too generous in scoring, as he filed much closer than 117-110.
Early on, Teraj seemed too good for Sandoval to use movement and fast combinations to make Americans better. In round five, 33-year-old Teraj dropped Sandoval on his head with his right hand.
Teraji fatigue: important factors
Sandoval came back strong and attacked Teraji with a body shot, using non-stop pressure to wear the older fighter. The pressure from Sandoval made me slowly put on the teraji. His speed, movement and power worsened in the final four rounds due to the effects of a certain attack from Sandoval.
The end result was not because Sandoval looked particularly good, but because of Teraj’s fatigue. What could have played a role in the fight was the brutal 12-round battle that Teraj had four months ago on March 13th in Japan.
Teraji won by his 12th knockout, but up until then it was a razor closure contest. He took lots of shots from Akai. It was a mistake for Teraj to return to the ring for a title defense against hungry and motivated Sandoval without proper rest.
Sandoval’s merciless pressure wins
Teraj’s energy levels were not what they were there during his battle with Aqui, he was dealing with the same type of pressure throughout that fight, but against better fighters than Sandoval.
The early morning start time for Teraji vs. Sandoval tonight has become difficult for our fans to see. Many American fans had no chance to see the fight. Furthermore, fight promotions were not there to generate much interest to get casual boxing fans to wake up at 5am.
