Boxing Results: Shields expands governance, Harrison claims gritty victory
WBC, WBO, IBF and WBF heavyweight champion Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields (17-0, 3 KOS) defeated IBF World Light Heavyweight Champion Rani Daniels (11-3-2, 1 KO).
In the first four rounds, the Shields chased Daniels and easily won all three rounds. In the fourth round, the Shields finished it with a left hook on the chin.
In the fifth round, Daniels decides to stand on her toes with the shield that masked her. In the sixth round, the Shields continued to overtake Daniels. In the seventh round, the Shields won again, but Daniels landed the final punch. In the final seconds of the eighth round, Daniels returned the shield to the corner and replaced it.
Again, in the final minute of the ninth round, Daniels stood in front of the Shields. The Shields were against another Shields round rope. In the 10th final round, Daniels lost but got her toe up in a game performance.
Scores were 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91. Juega Langros was a judge.
Light welterweight Samantha Worthington (12-0, 7 KOS) defeated Victorire Pitoux (14-3, 2 KOs) with a unanimous decision in the 10th round.
In the first five rounds, Worthington had the advantage. In the final five rounds, Pitot came back to fight it.
Scores were 99-91, 95-95, and 96-94.
Former WBC World Junior Middleweight Champion Tony “Superbad” Harrison (30-4-1, 21 KOS) defeated Edward Walladias (15-7, 12 KOs) with a 10th round unanimous decision to leave the canvas to 9th place.
In the first four rounds, Harrison had an edge. In the sixth round, Diaz landed an overhand on Harrison’s chin. At the end of the seventh round, Diaz lifted Harrison into the air and received warnings from judge Ben Rodriguez.
In the final seconds of the ninth round, Diaz landed a right cross on his chin and dropped Harrison for an eight count by referee Rodriguez. In the final round of the 10th, Harrison once came back from a knockdown in the previous round and scored this round with a thin margin.
Scores were 96-93, 98-91, and 97-92.
Heavyweight “price is right” Price Taylor (9-0, 6 KOs) easily beat Robert Sims (12-5-1, 3 KOs) with an unanimous eight-round decision.
In the first four rounds, Taylor won all four rounds. In the fifth round, at the end of the round, the extremely overweight Sims was given four rights to Taylor’s head.
In the sixth round, Taylor continued to hit the Sims into punches, winning in another round, finishing with two left hooks on the chin. In the seventh round, Taylor came out on Southpaw. In the eighth and final round, in the final seconds, Taylor landed the right and Sims countered left to the chin.
The scores were 80-72, 80-72, and 80-72.
