Boxing Results – Ugh Win: Zayas avoids by passing Garcia and hitting WBO Gold


Xander Zayas (22-0, 13 Kos) defeated Jorge “Cino” Garcia Perez (33-5, 26 KOs) with a 12-round unanimous decision to win the open-air WBO World Junior Middleweight title on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden Theatre in New York City. Zayas held his grip all night and moved. Xander’s clinch was excessive.

In the first three rounds, Zayas had the edge where Garcia ended the third with a gust of wind. In the eighth round from the fourth round, Zayas had an edge.

In the 11th round, Zayas took another round. In the 12th final round, Zayas outperformed Garcia.

Scores were 116-112, 115-110, and 119-109. Eric Dali was a judge.

In the co-main event, Bruce “Shusch’ Carrington Jr. (16-0, 9 KOs) defeated WBO African champion Mateus Haita (14-1, 9 KOs) by a unanimous 12-round decision to win the WBC interim world featherweight title.

In the first three rounds, Carrington went on his path with Haita. The fourth round was a big round for Carrington. At the very end he retorted the jab with a right uppercut on Haita’s chin. In the final seconds of the sixth round, Carrington landed the left hook on Haita’s chin.

In the ninth and 10th rounds, Carrington continued to punch Haita. In the 12th final round, it appeared that Carrington had thrown a shutout.

Scores were 120-108, 120-108, and 119-109. Harvey Dock was a judge.

Featherweight Jan “Dangerous” Carlos Santana Guerrero (15-0, 12 Kos) defeated Southpaw Aaron Alameda (30-3, 17 Kos) with a 10-round unanimous decision to win the Nabo Featherweight title.

In the third round, Santana hurt Alameda in the final seconds he paired his head. In the sixth round, Santana rocked Alameda to the right in the chin midway through the round.

In the ninth round, Santana landed many major rights at the head of Alameda. In the 10th final round, Alameda has a bruise under his left eye at this point. Santana had fun in the final round. Alameda chased him around the ring, unable to cut the ring off, and fought back throughout the round.

Scores were 100-90, 100-90, and 100-90. Shana Murdoch was a judge.

WBO Intercontinental Champion Rohan ‘El Rayo’ Polanco (17-0, 10 Kos) easily defeated Quinton “Quick Draw” Randall (15-3-1, 3 KOs) with a unanimous decision on one side of the 10-round unanimous one.

In the first three rounds it was all Polanco. In the fourth round, Polanco paired it with his chin and rocked Randall a minute into the round.

In the eighth round, Randall landed an overhand on Polanco’s chin. Probably his best punch. In the ninth round, Polanco regained control in a tough battle, yet again a victory. Polanco looks like a sure winner, but in the 10th and final rounds, both know that the fight is on the line.

Scores 97-93, 100-90, and 99-91. Sean Clark was a judge.

Super flyweight Stephen Navaro (7-0, 5 KOS) defeated tough Christopher “Vago” Rios (13-3, 7 KOs) with an unanimous eighth round decision.

In the third round, Navarro suffered a cut in his left eyebrow due to a head collision. At this point, Navarro is quite ahead of the line. In the fourth round, Navarro switched to Southpaw and won another round. In the fifth round, Navarro beat Rios. In the sixth round, Rios keeps pushing Navarro, who lacks a jab, but makes up for it with a two-handed counterattack against Rios.

In the seventh round, Navarro hurt Rios with an uppercut that ended the fight in his body in the final minute. In the 8th and final rounds, it was probably the best thing that hangs out.

The scores were 77-75, 77-75, and 77-75.

Light welterweight “Elgenal” Emiliano Fernando Vargas (15-0, 13 KOs) knocked out Alexander Espinosa (20-4-1, 9 KOs) at 0:42 in the first round of the scheduled eighth round.

In the first round, Vargas took a jab from Espinosa and hit it with a hard right above the chin, and dropped Espinosa as Judge Ricky Gonzalez waved it at 10am as Espinosa couldn’t get his foot back.

Super flyweight Southpaw Juanma “Juan Mitta” Lopez do Jesus (3-0, 2 KOS) stopped the Jorge L.

In the first round, a minute later, the counter left on his chin from Lopez went to Gonzalez Sanchez for an eight count from the judge’s Shadamardoc. In a minute, the combo dropped Gonzalez Sanchez. In the second round, their feet appeared to be intertwined when Gonzalez Sanchez seemed to be prematurely stopping the mismatched one.

Featherweight Julius ‘Chu’ Balo (1-0) defeated Brandan Ayala (2-1, 1 KO) by four unchanging decisions.

In the first three rounds, Baro had an edge. It is possible that they did it either way in the fourth final round.

Scores were 40-36, 40-36, and 40-36. Sean Clark was a judge.
