Boxing Results: Xander Zayas overwhelms Slawa Spomer with a relentless attack, securing TKO’s victory
Xander Zayas (21-0, 13 Kos) will be playing Slawa Spomer (20-1) in the ninth round of non-competitive battles at junior middleweight at the top-rank promot event at Madison Square Garden Theater on Friday night 11 Kos) stopped in New York City.
Zayas, 22, uses his defense to avoid hitting all night long and misses a wild punch spawmer miss, hitting lightly with everything he threw. He didn’t have the talent to make it an interesting fight, so it was amazing how bad Spomer was tonight.
Body Blow Tells a Story
Ninth, Zayas landed left in the middle of the Spomer, which hurts him. He then tagged him with a few more body shots and stopped the fight. Spomer was not happy with the stop, but he had thrown nothing to make a judge to allow him to stay there. The stop time was 9th at 2:01. Given how one-sided the round is, the contest should have been suspended by the seventh inning, as Spomer was being assaulted.
Early on, Spomer sometimes connected with his loop shots, but in the seventh, he was tired of Xander’s body and head shots. Zayas’ frequent low blows were useless. The referee took a handoff approach, policing the shot under the belt that Zaya had connected. There should be a point deduction.
