Bozy: Morrell needed more movement, bodywork against Benavidez

Trainer Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis says he went to David Benavidez’s body in the fight on February 1st and thought the former WBA “regular” light heavyweight champion would go to the box.

Bosey believes Morel (11-1, 9 KOS) has made a mistake by standing in front of Benavides (30-0, 24 KOS) and moving forward rather than setting traps . How the 27-year-old Cuba Morel fought was ideal for Benavidez to use his style to win a 12-round unanimous decision.

Morel’s mistake

Bosey wonders what his coach told Morell in his corner. Morel still hurt Benavidez several times with big shots, but he couldn’t take advantage of it. Benavides won the battle with scores of 118-108, 115-111, 115-111. The initial score submitted by Judge Tim Cheetham was still close, and it didn’t reflect what happened in the fight. Morel got his flesh pound, hurt Benavidez and marked his face beyond recognition.

“It was a tremendous fight, but I thought Morel was going to put more boxes and use his legs,” said trainer Derek’s “Bosie” Ennis. YSM Sports MediaHe responded to David Morell’s loss to David Benavides on February 1st. “He was leaning and throwing those kinds of punches. It seemed to me that it wasn’t his style to fight Benavidez.

“If someone raises their hands like that against Benavides and stays like that, Benavides is sharp in their combination. Body head, body head. But if you move, you make it difficult for him. I’ll do it, but he (Morel) didn’t do it, that’s where he lost.

“I did not do that at all, either,” Bosey said from the interviewer that he thought Morel would move and set the trap. “Benavides got it all, and he can pack a little box. He’s one of those who come to the fight. He wants to make it an exciting fight. That’s why. People come to watch him fight. He is entertaining the crowd.”

Morell fought the same way last August in his previous battle with Radivojo Kalajdzic. So it could be a training issue and he should consider getting a new coach to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

The strength of Benavidez

“He’s not just going to the box, he said, ‘What with boxing’. When he gets there, he goes to his body and his head and makes everything look spectacular,” Bozy said of Benavidez. “That’s why people love him, several times,” Ennis said of Benavidez getting injured several times by Morel.

“But he didn’t do that,” Bosey said of Morel. “When he hit him, he succumbed to him, but Benavides quickly returned like a champion. That is, he threw punches at them and came back, man.”

Morel fought poorly until the 11th, mercilessly attacking Benavides, who seemed very tired and beaten, dropping him. On the 12th, Benavides was fighting with smoke by throwing punches in his arm. Morell landed all of his most difficult shots, as he was still good at his strength as he began the fight. It was amazing how tired Benavides was.

“It was a good fight, like I said, but Morel didn’t fight his fight. He didn’t use his foot movements or he didn’t use it,” Bozy said. I said that. “The truth is, he didn’t go to the body. I didn’t see him go to the body. I didn’t see any of it (sting from Morel into the body). How did he do I don’t know if they put all sorts of information in the corner.

“One thing about Benavides is that it would be a good fight. He put that dog in him,” Ennis said, as is essential for Benavides to fight the winner of the rematch between Artur Betabiev vs Dmitry Bibol 2. I said that when I said that. “You had to kill him in the ring. He’s never going to stop. You had to let him stop,” Bozy said of Benavidez.
