Brett Hankison has been declared a violation of Breana Taylor’s civil rights

A federal judge has been sentenced to Louisville police officer Brett Hankison for 33 months in prison for violating Breana Taylor’s civil rights, who was killed by law enforcement during a failed drug attack in 2020.

“It is immeasurable for the Justice Department to seek a sentence that is very dramatically below federal guidelines after they have finally secured a conviction,” a statement from national civil rights lawyers Ben Crump, Ronita Baker and Sam Agiar said. Taylor’s family, He said in a statement.

“This sets a dangerous precedent. If a police officer is found guilty of violating someone’s constitutional rights, there must be real accountability and justice,” he said.
