Brian Norman Jr. will take the WBO title defense to Japan against Jinsaki on June 19th
WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. will defend Jinsasaki on June 19th. I live in ESPN+In the Shogun Gymnasium, Ota City, Tokyo, Japan.
The fight wasn’t unexpected as Sasaki called out 24-year-old Norman Jr. after his victory over Delric Quevas in Las Vegas on March 29th last month. Norman Sr. preferred the idea that his son would defend Sasaki. Because it’s a high paying battle and boosts Brian Jr.’s international appeal.
Norman Jr. will be fighting in Sasaki’s home country on June 19th in front of Sasaki’s crowd. So, if he expects to be cheered like in the past, he can forget that.
“Brian Norman Jr. is a motivated, talented champion who didn’t hesitate when he offered this opportunity,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Alm. “Jin Sasaki has power and punch, and his style is a dramatic and action-packed world title showdown.”
Create a global mark
This is not a battle that attracts a lot of attention from American fans, as I’ve never heard of Sasaki. Norman Jr. and his dad are slowly building on money and building for a bigger fight. Brian Jr. isn’t popular enough to get the wallet and star treatment he wants. He fought undercard in his final title defense against Quebus.
Shinsaki lost only once as a pro for Andy Hiraka in 2021, but he has looked good ever since. Power-wise, Sasaki could potentially bring Norman Junior a problem. His chin could prevent him from defeating Brian Jr.
Sasaki’s final five battles
– Shoki Sakai
– Kamilbara
– Joe Noina
– Hiroto Hoshi
– Keita Obara
Top Rank today announced that Norman Junior 27-0, 21 Kos) will travel to Japan to defend #2 Wbo Sasaki (19-1-1, 17 Kos). What this means is that there will be no next battle of unity for Norman Jr. and IBF and WBA champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis.
It’s a fight Norman wants, but Ennis promoter Eddie Hearn failed to offer them the deal they liked when he tried to negotiate last year. It’s a battle that’s coming soon if Khan gets Tulki Aralsik and can support him with the money Brian Jr. needs to agree.
