ChatGPT now uses “memory” to personalize web searches
Openai is upgrading chatgpt’s “Memory” again.
in Changelog and support page On Openai’s website on Thursday, the company quietly announced “Memory with Search.” This is a feature that allows BOT to pull out ChatGpt (details from past conversations, such as favorite foods) to inform you of queries when searching the web.
Yesterday, the chatgpt release notes were updated on April 16, 2025 with the addition of O3 and O4-mini to chatgpt, and interestingly it also mentions “search and memory” (is there no one who has already been unfolded? Not for me yet) pic.twitter.com/ovbcjnqf6z

Updates will be made immediately after Openai Beef up chatgpt’s Long tooth memory tool It has the ability to view the entire user’s chat history. It appears to be part of Openai’s ongoing efforts to distinguish ChatGpt from rival chatbots Humanity’s Claude and Google’s Geminithe latter also provides memory functionality.
As Openai explains in the documentation, when memory with search is enabled and the user types into a prompt that requires a web search, ChatGPT rewrites the prompt into a search query that says, “Utilize related information from memory” and “Make queries better and more useful.” For example, if you are a “know” ChatGpt from Memory is vegan and you live in San Francisco, ChatGpt can rewrite “some restaurants near me that I want” as “San Francisco.”
You can disable memory with search by disabling memory in the ChatGPT Settings menu. It’s not clear which users have it – Some account Above x They reported that they began looking at memories in searches earlier this week.
