Chelsea boss Maresca claims Palmer’s drought target is “spiritual.”

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca believes Cole Palmer’s recent goalless run is “spiritual” before Everton makes a visit to Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s Premier League.

Palmer failed to find the net in his final 16 games, following a record of 14 goals in the first 23 games of the season.

Meanwhile, Maresca’s side slid down from second to sixth due to pressure on the Chelsea boss. However, just two points after Newcastle, where five league games remain, the Blues finished in the top five, securing a spot in the Champions League next season.

Chelsea also lifted the Europa Congress League and is a favorite for the first leg of the semi-finals against Julgarden, traveling to Sweden next week.

Palmer, only 22 years old, has become a charm at Stamford Bridge. His manager argues in front of the goal that England International’s barren spell is nothing more than a matter of confidence.

“It’s certainly mental, not tactical or technical,” Maresca said.

“Cole is a player who scored 14 goals in 20 games. The style is the same. The manager is the same. The club is the same. There’s nothing changed around Cole.

“You can see that he’s a bit worried because he wants to help his team. You can see that he’s a bit struggling with that. But he showed how happy he is after Fulham. It’s a question of whether we can win the game or not.

“If he’s back by game, he’s at least one or two chances in every game, so it’s not how the team is playing.”
