Cowboys Pro Bowl Pass Rusher Mika Parsons Requests a deal after contract negotiations
Dallas Cowboys star defensive end Mika Parsons wrote on social media that she officially submitted a transaction request to Stephen Jones, the team’s co-owner, executive vice president, CEO and director of player representatives. The announcement comes after the Cowboys and Parsons got stuck on four-time Pro Bowler contract extensions.
“Yes, I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a cowboy and wear a star in my helmet.” Parsons wrote. “I wanted to play in front of the best fans of the sport and create this American team again.
“Unfortunately, I don’t want to be here anymore,” he continued. “Even without an agent, I no longer want to be bound by close negotiations. I don’t want to take shots to get injured while being injured for the organization, fans, and teammates.
Parsons explained how contract negotiations played out with the Cowboys. He had previously “quieted” to get the deal done, but he said he “want to clear some things.”
“My agent reached out to the Cowboys for the final offseason after his third year. “Unfortunately, the team didn’t want to start negotiations at that point. I was fine with that, and I didn’t complain and focused on the 2024 season.”
Parsons said his agents advised him to wait for other contract extensions to be announced to raise the price of his deal. However, he said he “didn’t mind” because he wanted to secure himself “as a cowboy for a long time.”
“I knew I would leave money at the table, but again I was fine with that,” he wrote. “Again, radio silence regarding my extension.”
Parsons then said he spoke to Stephen Jones in March 2025. Parsons “engages back and forth” but he said “I don’t think this is formal negotiations.”
“But when my agent reached out and spoke to Adam (Plasifka), he was told that the deal was already underway,” he wrote. “Of course, my agent also contacted Stephen Jones, who told him that it wasn’t. Again, the team decided to stay silent.”
Parsons said he and his agents decided to wait for the Cowboys to reach out to them, but they were never contacted. He added that the team took part in a zero conversation with Parsons agents.
“There hasn’t been one request from my agent about money, years, or anything else. Still, I’ve been quiet,” he concluded. “But again, after repeated shots in myself and all the stories, I made the tough decision not to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
According to a source who spoke to Athletic Diana Lassini, The Cowboys are not going to trade Parsons. However, “the league teams are planning to reach out to see his availability today.”
Since being drafted in 2021, Mika Parsons has been selected to four Pro Bowls and three All-Pro picks. His 52.5 sacks are fifth in the NFL since joining the league in 2021.
