De La Jolla believes Devin Haney’s jaw could face Jose Ramirez after the physical trauma of the battle with Ryan Garcia
Promoter Oscar de la Jolla has questioned whether Devin Haney’s jaw can be repaired in the year he was out of the ring since losing to Ryan Garcia last April. De La Jolla feels that Haney, 26, has been dropped three times, and that multiple injuries in the fight with Ryan could have forever ruined his chin.

That’s bad for Honey (31-0, 15 KOs), who erased the loss by the New York State Athletic Board, with Garcia’s positive test for banned PED ostarin. However, Haney is fighting the mighty puncher Joseramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) this Friday, May 2nd, at Times Square in New York City. The committee can’t do anything about Haney’s jaw leaving that Garcia fight.
A dangerous career?
De La Jolla feels Honey has a heart, and he says it’s why he kept going after being dropped by Kingley last April. However, if Haney’s jaw leaves that fight, he will hit him hard in the head all night, and Hart will not save him against Ramirez. He doesn’t take a break like Ryan did because he has a better engine.
If he stopped being beaten by Ramirez, he could see the beginning of the end of Devin’s career on Friday night. It will get worse for Haney against other welterweight fighters. Because many of them bump into each other harder than Ramirez, and are much younger. Haney is too big to return to 140, and even if he does, he will become food for fighters like Gary Anchanne Russell, Alberto Puero and Richardson Hitchens.
“I think Devin is full of his hands as he’s away from the devastating knockout. So he said, ‘Oh, my well, what happened to me in my final fight with Ryan? Wait a minute. I’ll have to play Ramirez. That’s a bit confusing in Devin’s head,” De La Hoya said. Arrival of the Grand Monday in New York City.
Haney is going to fight like he always does, with jabs, clinches and moves. I’ve seen his formula many times in the fight against George Cambosos Jr. and Regis Progrey. He is going to annoy Ramirez and try to get away from his range of firing.
“Is he going to hit me? Will I be knocked out? Is my chin still the same? When you’re knocked out as a fighter, you just lose confidence,” De La Hoya said. “He (Honey) showed his heart. His heart is different. You can’t fix your chin, your chin. It takes away your confidence.”
This guy is told by trainer Robert Garcia to target Haney’s chin to follow what Ryan did, so he will hit Ramirez hard. Ramirez is trying to capitalize what Garcia focused on the headshot and made Devin.
An analogy of brick walls
“Let’s do this. You can build a wall out of brick and put some nice cement, water and everything,” said de la Jolla. “But over time, it deteriorates. Over time, it falls apart. Can Devin’s jaw withstand those strong punches?
“His chin can take those left hooks and right hand over time. Over time, it’s like cutting through a rock. Ultimately, it turns it into a pebble. Do you see Devin Haney having confidence and chin?
