Diogo Darott “fights against each other” evokes Reuben Amorim, who created the Manchester United team.
Manchester United defender Diogo Darott believes manager Reuben Amorim will “create groups to fight each other” following a disastrous campaign in the past semester.
United look strong in the preseason so far, finishing 15th in the Premier League and appearing to be a much improved outfit for a team that has registered the club’s lowest points total in half a century.
The Red Devils took on West Ham 2-1 in Bournemouth’s 4-1 thrashing in the Premier League Summer Series in the US, facing Everton in Sunday’s final match.
For at least for now, the summer changes at Old Trafford seem to have had positive results. Big Money Moves for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo – the latter has not yet been featured in his new club, but has been a marker for Amorim Rebuild up to date, but the appearance of Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony is set to offload before the end of the moving window.
Marcus Rashford has secured a loan move to Barcelona, but speculation is growing about RB Leipzig’s unified interest in Benjamin Sesco and Aston Villa Ollie Watkins.
Darott believes the team is currently heading in the right direction, and Portugal International is praising his fellow countrymen and helping to bring about a positive team aggregation.
“I think it’s a connection between players right away,” Darrott said.
“I think we’re creating groups that fight each other right now, and that’s what we’re trying to create. Obviously, there’s still a long way to go. I’m not saying it’s perfect because it’s difficult, but that’s where I want to go towards perfection.
“But obviously, there are immediate signs that the team is fighting a little more and having more strength. That’s what we’re trying to do. I think Reuben is really good as a manager in that he’s trying to make the most of you.”
Amorim’s “clear message” to players
Darot also revealed that Amorim is unshakable in his personality type and mentality. He wants United’s dressing room.
Darrott added: “He makes it very clear in his message that you want to be part of the team or not here. If you want to be at Manchester United, you need to match some criteria. If you can’t match that, that’s not the place for you. The message is really clear.
“If you start pre-season, it’s because he believes that is a group we need to come. Obviously, we’ve always had amazing players coming. You can feel right away that you meet those criteria.
“We’re really happy with how things go, but we’re not hooked on the consequences of what we’re doing. It only motivates you to get results when you get things right.”
United will begin their Premier League campaign on Sunday, August 17th by visiting rival Arsenal.
