May’s wife, Millie, did not think the same as Dustin.

After a CT scan revealed the importance of tears in the esophagus in May, doctors quickly drove him for surgery.
“It was very frustrating. You can’t plan it. You can’t prevent it. It just happened,” May said.
“It wasn’t on the 2024 bingo card.”
The surgery, known as “basically a complete abdominal surgery,” left a long wound on the pitcher from the lower chest to the stomach.

May has been part of the Dodgers pitching staff and has led me to go down the stretch and realize how vulnerable life is.
βIt gives me a different perspective on a lot of things in life, just look at what is so non-baseball-related β it can be eliminated in a flash. It definitely gave me the feeling (wow, things can change like that’s what it is. It was definitely very scary,” May said.
“It was definitely a life-changing event. It was definitely very serious. It wasn’t a very common surgery. It was definitely an emergency.”
Tommy John’s procedure in May was the second time he had an elbow repair when he underwent surgery in 2021.
In May, he pitched 191.2 innings over five seasons in the Big League. He was healthy and effective as he has a 3.10 ERA with 174 strikeouts on the Dodgers mound.
With the Dodgers’ rotation scattered with aces, there is no guarantee that May will be in the starting rotation despite his health again.
