Everything goes wrong with the King of Punjab! Preity Zinta moves through court. This is the reason

Bollywood actress and co-owner of Punjab Kings Preity Zinta Legal proceedings have begun against her fellow co-directors Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia. The conflict centers on the legitimacy of the extraordinary general meeting (EGM) held on April 21, 2025 by KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, the company that owns the Punjabi Kings franchise.

Preity Zinta will move to Chandigarh Court

Preity, which holds a 23% stake in KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, has filed a civil lawsuit in Chandigarh Court attempting to declare that EGM on April 21 is illegal and invalid. She alleges that a meeting was held and was implemented in violation of the 2013 Companies Act and in violation of the Secretary Standards. According to her petition, the meeting did not follow the appropriate procedures required under the company’s laws and related secretary regulations.

The controversy escalated when Jinta challenged the meeting via an email dated April 10th. Despite her objections and the presence of director Karan Paul, both Jinta and Paul opposed Munesh Kanna’s appointment as new manager during EGM. Nevertheless, with Wadia’s support, Berman proceeded with the meeting and the appointment of Kanna.

An important point of the competition was the appointment of the meeting chair. Zinta and Paul opposed Ness Wadia’s appointment as chairman and cited Principle 5.1 of the Secretary Standards. The vote for the chair was divided into four attending directors, further complicating the legality of the meeting proceedings.

In her legal submission, Jinta sought a court declaration that would negate EGM and prevent Munesh Khanna from assuming supervisory liability. She also requested an injunction to stop the company from implementing decisions made during a disputed meeting. Furthermore, the lawsuit seeks to prohibit the company from holding further board or general meetings without the presence of both Jinta and Paul, and without the involvement of Kanna, until the case is resolved.

The court has issued notifications to respondents to KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited and co-directors Mohit Burman and Ness Wadia, with the next hearing scheduled for May 27th.
