Experts warning against North Korean-style suppression in Israel’s post-conflict Iran

Aarabhi, which maintains a direct line of contact in Iran, described a country besieged by its own ruler. In Tehran, he explained how citizens would randomly stop, and their phones were confiscated and searched. “If you’re laughing at content or regimes that are considered pro-Israel, you’ll disappear,” he said. “People are currently leaving their phones at home or removing everything before they go outside.”

This new wave of delusion and fear, he explained, reflects the tactics seen in North Korea. “It was a perverse purpose,” Arabi said, “They intentionally cut communications to instill fear and manipulate public perception. For four days, no single message passed. Even Israeli evacuation alerts did not reach the target.”

The administration’s purpose was two things, he said. “At the start of the war, many Iranians welcomed the strike,” Arabi noted. “They knew that Israel was. Within the regime’s power structure, fallout from the war is just as serious. Arabi said that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) faces an internal crisis of trust and an imminent cleansing. “These operations would not have been carried out without penetration at the highest level,” he said. “There’s a lot of pressure to clean up the house right now.”

The next generation of IRGC officers – those who have joined since 2000 are younger, more radical and deeply instilled. More than half of their training is now ideological. Aarabhi said these new factions have begun turning on senior commanders and accused them of being too soft in Israel or working with the Mossad.

“Ironically, Khamenei created the ranks of these extreme ideologies to integrate power. He is now more radical than he,” Arabi said. “He’s having a hard time controlling them.”

Purges could be a shift that could make the IRGC more volatile nationally and internationally, along with the rise of younger, less experienced commanders with far more risk tolerance. Despite the regime’s brutal turn, Arabi claims this is a sign of weakness rather than strength. “If the Islamic Republic had confidence, there would not be a need to crush people like this,” he said. “It’s acting out of fear. But the roads will remain silent until the regime’s repressive devices are dismantled – and a change of government is unlikely.”
