FAA issues emergency orders to New York Helicopter Charter, Inc.


New York Helicopter Charter, A helicopter crashed on the Hudson River last week killed five families and a pilot, and was grounded through an emergency order from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The FAA decision comes after the helicopter company fired the operations director following his decision to close flights.

“The FAA is taking this action in part because he was fired after the company’s business manager voluntarily closed the flight,” the FAA said in a statement.

The FAA has also announced that it will complete a comprehensive review of the company’s operations.

“A review known as the Certificate Owner Assessment Program (CHEP) determines whether operators are complying with applicable regulations and effectively managing safety, and identifying risks and risks so that FAA and operators can mitigate them,” the agency said.

The FAA previously announced that it will continue to support it National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) will also begin investigating crashes, and instant review of tour operator licenses and safety records

“The FAA is already analyzing airplane/helicopter hotspots across the country. We will host a helicopter safety panel on April 22nd to explain our findings, risks and additional mitigation options,” the FAA added. “Safety is the FAA’s number one priority and we don’t hesitate to act to protect the flying masses.”

The suspension of New York helicopter charters will remain in place until the necessary personnel and safety protocols are in place.

The company was also told to waive the airline’s certificate until the results of the FAA reviews were found.
