“f*Money, just fight!” Shakur Stephenson delivers William Zepeda demanding Oscar de la Hoya
Shakur Stephenson says he doesn’t care about the money and hopes that Golden Boy promoter Oscar de la Hoya will launch a fight with William Zepeda. WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur (23-0, 11 Kos) is ready to go to the wallet bid route if he is unable to make a deal with interim champion Zepeda (33-0, 27 Kos).
It doesn’t look good in the Battle of Shakur Zepeda. The money that Shakur thought was from Saudi Arabia has evaporated. If the wallet bid is low, it’s not surprising that Shakur leaves the WBC title.
Shakur doesn’t mention what his plan B is if he doesn’t fight William Zepeda next. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, knows that if he is using one of his British fighters again for Shakur, he will not be happy if his fight doesn’t happen for him. He went that route on Stevenson’s final title defense using British fighter Josh Padley. Hearn needs Zepeda to build interest for Tank Davis’ battle.
Shakur’s request
“You know something. f**** money. Respect me as a man,” Shakur Stevenson said. xletting the boxing world know that they want to fight William Zepeda regardless of money.
“Me and my team did this because we want a fight. Now it’s easy to lie, cry, and it makes me want this.
Shakur says he doesn’t care about the money, but because he clearly complains about Turki’s backtrack in his original offer for the fight of Zepeda.
Winning the WBC title from Shakur is not something that would crack for Zepeda. Shakur knows what’s waiting for him, so he’s pushing hard for Zepeda’s fight. He feels he can win and then bypasses Andycrus He heads straight to a unified match with Gervonta Davis.
De La Jolla hasn’t said last week on social media that Stephenson had chosen not to go through the fight.
Oscar may look in another direction for Zepeda, who may feel that it is not worth fighting Shakur if his money is exhausted. Holding the WBC belt left Mexican slugger in hot seats and had to protect the strap against the highly ranked #1 Andycruz. Why does Zepeda want such a headache?
