Frank Martin details Keyshaun Davis’ weaknesses against “tricky and resilient” fighter jets, evoking a top-rank protective stance
Frank Martin says he wants to fight Keyshaun Davis this year, and says he will “f***” him. He states that Davis has a “big mouth” and wants to silence him by beating him. Martin
“The Ghost” Martin (18-1, 12 KOS) has not fought since being knocked out in the eighth round last June by WBA Lightweight Champion Gervonta Davis. He got a nice payday for that fight and managed to get another paycheck by fighting Keyshaun.
“He overturned that behavior. He actually made himself look bad,” Frank Martin said. Fighting Hub TV Keyshawn Davis is overweight and the title defense against Edwinderos Santos has been cancelled. “I had Delos Santos pull that fight, and I won it.
Martin’s thoughts reflect the thoughts of many boxing fans who feel that Keyshaun has chosen to get cold feet in the final moments and not go through the battle for Delos Santos. Was Davis scared him at the last minute after watching some video clips of Edwin’s fight, or was it his intention to always miss the weight, hoping he could fight with a large size advantage, or hoping the match would be cancelled?
Martin reveals Davis
“The tricky and resilient guy, Keyshaun has problems with those guys. The flat and strong fighter that comes forward, he does good things against them. But Los Santos is bouncy and can punch.
It’s surprising that Keyshawn agreed to fight Delos Santos first, as he was the complete opposition of everyone he fought professionally. Top Rank put Keyshaun in a sink or swim level fight, and he failed to gain weight. What does it teach you?
“That’s ridiculous. I know that weight cuts are difficult, but 4-5 pounds, you (Keyshaun) didn’t even try to take that weight off. That fight could happen this year. I can make that fight.”
Even with the benefits of huge weight, Keyshaun would have lost to Delos Santos. But if he was reduced to 135 as he was supposed to, it would have been much easier to knock him out as Edwin did to Jose La Valenzuela.
Keyshawn Management Shield
“I’m going to f*** him. I’ll hurt him. Some of the people he fought are good fighters, but the top ranks will make them look good, they do their good work with their guys,” Martin said of Davis. “So I felt Delos Santos was a bit of a twist in the style he’s fighting for, as he’s an explosive and strong fighter.”
Keyshaun is likely to lose, so it makes sense to bail out of the Battle of Delos Santos. Top Rank had been giving Davis a can of tomatoes since becoming a pro in 2021, but Nahir Albright, one good fighter they matched with him, has come close to defeating him. Many fans have seen Keyshawn’s decision to surpass his limits by 4.3 pounds, a way to get out of the fight to save his marketability. A knockout loss to De Los Santos would have hurt Davis’ ability to continue his salaries against soft opposition.
“When he (Keyshaun) fought Pedraza, he was a good fighter, but when he fought for his belt, he didn’t underestimate the guy he was fighting (Dennis Belinchik), but that was an easy job.”
Top Rank chose to match Keyshaun with Jose Pedraza, Gustavoremos and Dennis Belinchik following a near defeat in 2023 to Nahir Albright. Andy Cruz had called him, but they didn’t trigger the fight for obvious reasons. Keyshawn showed zero interest in fighting the talented Cuban cruise.
Davis’ Olympic loss
“You saw how he lost to Andy Cruz at the Olympics. That style. Resilience, angle, he has a problem with it,” Martin said.
It was not the first time Keyshawn had lost to Cuba’s Andycruz at the 2020 Olympics. He had lost to Cruz three times before that fight. So it appeared he quit mentally after the first round and admitted the gold medal to Cruz. In the third round, Keyshawn ran from Andy the whole time, which was pathetic. He didn’t even try to win.
