The French Open Men’s Final became a spectacular epic for two of the sports’ top athletes, Janik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, on Sunday.
Turning out to be one of the most exciting contests in the sport of the year, Alcaraz is back to defeat the sinners 4-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2).
Thinner appears to have had an advantage early in the match. Thinner won his first set of 6-4, earning a 7-6 victory in Set No. 2. However, as Alcaraz returned stronger with each and every time Thinner tried to clean him, it seemed as if the momentum built in the first two sets of the match escaped.
Alcaraz scored the third set, 6-4. The Sinner then had a 5-3 advantage with Alcaraz in the fourth set, but the Spanish star was snatched deep into a different mentality. He tied the set in six games, six games, then forced a tiebreaker who won 7-3.
Alkaraz won the first game of the fifth set after a shot that landed near the net on the side of Thinner. It seemed all momentum had moved to Alkaraz as he took the lead and kept it.
The sinner will not go quietly. He was frustrated in the middle of the set, but showed the Roland Garros crowd why he was the number one tennis player in the world. He hit an incredible shot near the net that even Alcaraz could not reach. Alkaraz, despite having serves, was unable to get the winner he needed. The Sinner tied each of the five sets.
The sinner dug deep. He came back when he managed to let go of his grip in the tournament. He took a 6-5 lead after Alcaraz returned the game to Deuce. It was the sinner who had an edge to what was an incredible shot after an incredible shot and what was a definitive set.
Not too fast, Alkaraz essentially said. He forced the decisive set tiebreaker with an incredible backhand winner.
The crowd watched with breath as the two tennis players continued to hit the ball back and forth with the iconic red clay. It took me over 5 hours to finally decide who the winner was.
Alcaraz won the tiebreaker 10-2, winning the French Open title for the second consecutive year.
