FTC is seeking more information about SoftBank’s Ampere transaction, Bloomberg News Report
(Reuters) – The US Federal Trade Commission is seeking details on the $6.5 billion purchase of Ampere Computing, a semiconductor designer at Softbank Group Corp, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.
The investigation, officially known as the second request for information, suggests that the acquisition could undergo extended government review, the report said.
SoftBank announced the purchase of the startup in March, part of an effort to strengthen investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The report did not provide the reason for the FTC request.
SoftBank, Ampere, and FTC did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
SoftBank is an active investor in US technology. He is leading funding for the $500 billion Stargate Data Center project and agrees to invest $32 billion in ChatGpt-Maker Openai.
