Fundora Sidesteps Essential Zayas Defense for the Beneficial Tszyu Rematch Fight
Unified two-belt junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundra reportedly will not take part in this Friday wallet bid for the mandatory title defense against WBO’s mandatory Xander Zayas.
Rather than doing that, Fandra (21-1-1, 14 KOs) will likely face Tim Tszyu in a rematch on July 19th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Top Rank Promoted #1 Zayas (21-0, 13 Kos) will fight #2 Rank Jorge Garcia Perez For WBO junior middleweight belts.
Side Tepping Zaya
Lance Pagmia defeated the news Fundora has chosen not to participate in Friday’s wallet bid for the fight of Zayas. The moves made by the 27-year-old Fandra make sense. Because there’s more money in the fight against popular former WBO 154 pound champion Tszyu (25-2, 18 Kos) in a rematch from Australia’s PPV, making more sense than against the 22-year-old Zayas, who is not a pay-per-view fighter.
Fundora abdicated Tszyu last year and beat him in a 12-round split decision in Las Vegas on March 30th. Tim was amputated on his forehead from an accidental elbow from Fundra in the second round, fighting the blood that was masked his vision for the rest of the fight.
Before the cut occurred, Twee was actively lit with a power shot. Tim’s effectiveness decreased after the injury. The rematch gives Sebastian the opportunity to prove that his victory was not a fluke.
Zayas’ fight against Perez (33-4, 26 Kos) is not easy for him, as the Mexican puncher combines power and punch. Perez was previously undefeated recently. Charles Conwell With a 12-round split decision in Oceanside, California on April 19th.
Perez’s threat
Zayas lacks the offensive or ability to fight Perez the way Conwell tried to do. The Puerto Rican fighter Zaya chooses to do so is to move with the box, as he has in many battles.
Top Rank is steering Xander into #1 position in WBO with careful matchmaking, keeping him away from dangerous candidates. They have Zaya in this position, but it is impossible to know if he is ready or even a good fighter.
His opposition was very unshiny. Because he is similar to when former top fighter Edgar Berlanga was in the company. All we can say is that Zayas has no power, he has made many moves and he was not worthy of attention to creating his 21-0 record.
