Funeral services for Diogo Jota and his brother Andre take place on weekends after the tragic death of a car accident

Funeral plans for Liverpool star Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva were confirmed after an untimely death in a tragic car accident early on Thursday.

The pair were caught up in a fatal collision just 10 miles from Spain from the Portuguese border after Lamborghini suffered a tire breakdown while overtaking another vehicle.

The car fell off the road, exploded into flames, and was unable to save it.

The devastating news has prompted the world of football and more of a pour in grief and support.

Outside Anfield, fans created a tribute to heartfelt stretching over 100 yards filled with flowers, balloons, scarves and handwritten messages.

The mourners don’t just look back at Jota’s soccer legacy. Just two weeks ago, the 28-year-old married Rute Cardoso, his long-term partner and mother of three children, at a moving ceremony held at the altar.

Funeral services for Diogo and Andre, 26, will be held at 10am on Saturday in San Cosme, a small town located about 30 minutes from Porto.

The same location served as the venue for Jota’s wedding on June 22nd. According to local priest Jose Manuel Macedo, the Wake will be held at the same church.

On Thursday afternoon, the brother’s body was found arriving at the funeral home in Puebla de Sanabria, the Spanish town where the brothers were transported after the accident.

At the time of the crash, the two reportedly returned to the UK by car rather than flying due to recent medical advice Jota received. He had undergone mild lung surgery, and his doctors strongly recommended air travel.

Jota’s death leaves an immeasurable gap not only in Liverpool, where he played for five years, but also within the Portuguese national team.

Since his move from Wolves in 2020, he has earned 182 appearances for the Reds, scoring 65 goals and 26 assists.

His efforts have contributed greatly to Liverpool’s domestic and European success, and he was a key figure in Portugal’s UEFA Nations League victory, winning an international cap of 50.

Liverpool issued a statement calling for privacy from their families when they agreed to a loss that was unimaginable.

Official tributes have been poured from well-known football figures, including Jurgen Klopp, Steven Gerrard and Cristiano Ronaldo.
