Gamesir Cyclone 2 has one thing to stop you from being a great Nintendo Switch Controller

Gamesir has created their own name for themselves over the past few years by building solids game Controllers with top-notch features are often cheaper and cheaper than the competition. It’s one of the latest controllers Cyclone 2multiple platform support, several connection options, solid triggers, joysticks and many other great things. However, the inactive buttons and Janky software make it difficult to recommend if you have a large number of other great controllers for roughly the same price.

What I like about Gamesir Cyclone 2

The first thing I like about Cyclone 2 is how it holds. Ergonomically, I feel that the Cyclone 2 is similar to Microsoft’s standard Xbox controller. This is a good thing. It also has a significant amount of weight.

There are vibration motors on both sides, which almost feels the controller premium than the price suggests. The hole effect triggers It’s nice and can be switched to become a microswitch hair trigger. You can also turn on Hair Trigger mode via software. This allows you to use the entire hole effect trigger, but you can get the hair trigger action if you wish. I personally prefer physical microswitches, but if you want extra milliseconds, you do.

The rear paddles are suitable for my hands, and they and the bumpers are very tactile and responsive. However, the remaining hardware is a mixed bag. For example, the face buttons can feel muddy. During my tests I was worried for a moment that my actions would not be registered.

The trigger is a Hall effect, but the joystick is Gamesir’s proprietary Mag-Res TMR, claiming it is more durable than Hall effect sticks. Apart from having a polling rate of 1,000Hz and a sampling resolution of 4,096, we were unable to find much technical information about them. They felt easy to use and I didn’t notice any significant differences compared to other joysticks.

One of my favorites about Cyclone 2 is its wide range of cross-platform support, allowing you to use one controller for almost everything. You can use Cyclone 2 using Nintendo Switch, PC, Android and iOS (oddly, there’s a slot for a mobile mount to hold your smartphone, but Gamesir has confirmed that it’s not selling that accessory anymore).

There is no official Xbox or PlayStation support, but you can play both consoles remotely from your PC. Cyclone2 is supported correctly. I tested this, but I had no issues with both streaming from each console and playing Xbox games directly on my PC via GamePath. You will need to remap the Cyclone 2 buttons for use on your PlayStation using something like ReWASD or PSPLAY.

My favorite feature on Cyclone 2 is enabled by the included charging stand. Simply lift the controller off the stand and it will automatically turn on and reconnect to the last connected device. Literally picking up a controller is convenient and by the time you sit in your chair you’re ready without having to do anything else.

One big disappointment

Sadly, Cyclone 2 has one obvious missing piece: its support software. Gamesir is always behind the competition with its software, and that applies to its PC apps, Gamesir Connect. To be fair, it works and does what it is supposed to be, but the entire UI is a bit janky and I feel it’s too crowded.

whole, $56 ($49 without a charging stand) It’s not an unreasonable price for a decent controller, but honestly, there are a few other ones I would recommend instead.

Gamesir’s Cyclone 2 works on PC, Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. It offers hole effect triggers with adjustable trigger depth and unique magnetic resonance joystick. Some great features like Instant Play and its charging stands won’t make up for mushy face buttons or D-pads, especially if you have a better controller for a similar price.
