Gap Wave begins production of Valeo waveguide antennas
Gapwaves has begun production of series of waveguide antennas for Valeo’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADA) and utilized patented multi-layer waveguide (MLW) technology.
The production kickoff took place last week at Gapwaves’ facility in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the first series was released to Valeo on July 1st.
The Gothenburg facility, which opened last November, is crucial for the development, testing and verification of scalable production processes before transferring it to global production partners.
Following the early production phase in Gothenburg, GapWaves will relocate production to Frencken Group in China for full-scale, automated series production under the supervision of Gapwaves.
Valeo’s new vehicle radar, which incorporates Gapwaves antennas, is set to enhance ADAS features such as blind spot warning and traffic cross-alert systems.
Gapwaves said the partnership with Valeo has significantly improved performance and created a “cost-effective radar.”
“We’re looking forward to seeing you in the future,” said Jonas Ehinger, CEO of Gapwaves. “This is a very important milestone for Gap Wave. It was important to demonstrate that Gothenburg’s new pilot line maintains top quality and meets the requirements for the high interfaces of the automotive industry, while maintaining such short lead times from the development to production of new antennas.
“Over the past year, Gapwaves has taken many important steps on our commercialization journey. It is a strong testament to Gapwaves’ positioning that it is up and running for Valeo, the world leader in ADAS systems.”
GapWaves’ multi-layer waveguide technology reduces costs and provides high-end performance.
Gap Wave produces approximately 435,000 antennas this year, with an estimated 4.5 million in 2026, up from 60,000 produced between 2011 and 2023.
