George Foreman Tribute Video – Boxing News 24
Big George Foreman sadly passed away, but he will remain a legendary figure in boxing history forever. Foreman was a great and authentic all the time, and he was inspiring millions of people.
Age is just a number. This was the ideal that Big George hugged when the former heavyweight champion made an unexpected comeback in 1987. Foreman was 38 years old and lost the heavyweight championship with Muhammad Ali in 1974, and George had not fought in many years. The comeback was not taken very seriously at first. It was widely recognized as a money-making gimmick. Foreman’s goal of regaining the heavyweight crown seemed like an unrealistic, overstated fantasy.
However, Foreman fought regularly, losing weight, becoming sharper, and working on a better fighting state. About four years later, Foreman was a perfect 24-0 on the comeback trail, with 23 of which came out in the distance. This gave Foreman the opportunity to challenge undefeated and uncontroversial world heavyweight champion Ivander Holyfield. The fight took place in April 1991, and Foreman put in a spectacular effort, but was short. This seemed to be the end of the road for Foreman, but he put it in the box. After several fights, he lost his biased decision against Tommy Morrison, at which point Foreman was amortized as a serious candidate.
In November 1994, after being out of action 17 months after Morrison’s defeat, Foreman had the opportunity to challenge New World heavyweight champion Michael Mooler. Few observers gave the 45-year-old Foreman a chance against the undefeated 26-year-old heavyweight champion. The fight was largely unfolded in response to expectations that Mooler was too fast and too athletic for Old George. Mooler was crucially winning the fight, but in round 10, Big George landed a big one-two that made boxing history when he knocked out the champion.
The history-making victory marked Foreman as the oldest man to win a heavyweight championship. Previous records were held by Jersey Joe Walcott, who won the heavyweight crown at the age of 37. The victory made Foreman the two-time heavyweight champion. Surprisingly, Foreman’s two championship reigns were more than 20 years apart.
Big George was one of the most extraordinary boxers in the long, rich history of professional boxing, but more than that, he was an extraordinary man who entertained and inspired millions of people through his words and actions, exuding unwavering heart, resolve and self-faith.
