Glasner confesses he has never seen the FA Cup final… but the Eagles boss saw Taylor Swift at Wembley


Crystal Palace Manager Oliver Grasner has never seen the FA Cup final. He says he was unable to tune as an Austrian young man because “there was no internet.”

Born in the small Austrian town of Shelding, Glasner hopes to bring the Eagles closer to their first major trophy when they face Aston Villa in the Final 4 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday (17:15 BST).

“We couldn’t see it in Austria when I was growing up,” the 50-year-old replied when asked about his memories of the most famous days on the British football calendar.

“There was no internet… I’m a little older than most of you. But from the first day here, I was able to feel it was a huge British cup, so we’re enjoying it.

If the palace wins, Glasner will become the first Austrian manager to reach the final, and his country will become the first new country to be represented by the game manager since 2021 when Thomas Touchel took charge of Chelsea.

Glasner went to Wembley to see Touchel’s three lions and, at the request of his daughter, was able to see arguably the world’s most famous pop star.

“I watched two England matches and brought my daughter to Taylor Swift’s concert,” Glasner said. “Of course, it’s the largest stadium in the UK. It’s a very traditional stadium.”
