Google sues part of court ruling in monopoly cases – Report

Alphabet’s Google will appeal some of the recent U.S. court rulings filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ), Reuters reports.

The decision, issued by US District Judge Leonie Brinkema on April 17, 2025, discovered that the company intentionally acquired and maintained its exclusivity.

Brinkema concluded that Google illegally controls two sectors within the online advertising technology market

Brinkema said: “The intentional acquisition or maintenance of ownership of monopoly power in related markets and its power distinguished from growth or development as a result of superior products, business insights, or historical accidents.”

“This exclusive act has significantly harmed Google publisher customers, its competitive processes and, ultimately, consumers of information on the open web.”

The court’s decision paves the way for Google to decide on a subsequent hearing to determine potential relief measures to sell part of its advertising business.

In response, Google said the judge issued a mixed ruling.

While DOJ failed to demonstrate that Google’s advertiser tools and the acquisition of Doubleclick and Admeld was anti-competitive, the court found that Google’s publisher tools were violating antitrust laws by excluding competition.

The DOJ had suggested that Google would need to sell Google’s ad manager.

Google is also facing a class action lawsuit The UK has potential damages of over £5 billion ($6.62 billion) that are allegedly using its dominant market position to inflate prices.

The lawsuit was filed last week by competition law experts or Brook in the UK Court of Competitive Appeals.
