Guardiola fears Manchester City will miss out on transfer goals without Champions League football
Pep Guardiola acknowledges that if Manchester City fails to qualify for the Champions League, Manchester City could miss out on its summer transfer goal.
The city is currently fifth in the Premier League and the final four in the FA Cup ahead of its trip to Everton on Saturday afternoon.
With six league games still remaining, Guardiola’s side will need to finish in the top five to secure a Champions League spot, but with both Chelsea and Aston Villa behind them, City is far from guaranteeing a spot.

After dominating the domestic scene over the past few years, including four Premier League titles, City struggled this season, enduring a disastrous end in 2024, winning only once in 13 games in all competitions.
Although results and performance have recovered over the past few months, Guardiola’s team is expected to receive major improvements in the summer, especially as midfield talisman Kevin De Bruin has been confirmed to leave.

However, the city boss fears that if he is not playing in the elite European club football competition, the club will struggle to land priority signatures.
“It depends on the players we want and whether they have one option,” Guardiola said.
“If there are a lot of them, of course, I’m sure the players are looking at the Champions League players.
“There may be other people who say they don’t want to go anyway because the players come and don’t want to go because there’s no Champions League. I don’t know. I didn’t talk to one potential player next season, so I don’t know.”

In the prospects of some players on which the city’s current players are departing, Guardiola added:
“The clubs and organizations decide what’s the best. The clubs of course work behind the scenes what they have to do, but I’m worried about these six (Premier League) games and the FA Cup.
“Then, one week, 10 days off, June 5th, will fly to the US and start again seven days before the preparations for the (club) World Cup.”
