Hampton reveals “difficult years” after women’s penalties in Euro 2025

England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton said she spent “stricken” time “in and around the English environment” after she saved two penalties against Sweden in the Lioness shootout and reached the semi-finals at the Women’s Euro 2025.

Holder was 2-0 behind the 2-2 draw 25 minutes later, but Swedish goalkeeper Jennifer Faulk sent her efforts to the bar in a shootout, with Chelsea’s Hampton winning the Match Award.

“It’s been a difficult few years for me in the English environment,” said the 24-year-old. “The girls have seen all the effort I put in and how they helped me get to where I am now.

“The girls have a lot behind me. They know how difficult it is for me in the English environment and the surroundings. The whole team performs for me. It’s a lovely moment.”

Hannah Hampton: England’s “The Problem”

Manager Sarina Wigman dropped Hampton in October 2022 while prospects were at Aston Villa, making a decision on “personal issues she has to solve,” and thought “it’s better for her to stay at her club.”

Guardian Hampton’s “action and attitude” at team camp caused her exclusion, reporting that she added “it’s unlikely to be chosen again” by the Dutch.

Carla Ward, then Villa boss, later omitted Hampton from his match against Chelsea, but the players supported the team from the stands despite being advised to stay.

“Hanna was available,” Ward explained. “Something happened yesterday and we decided that she was in the team’s greatest interest to have her at home, so I did exactly that. That’s what I really want to say about this issue.”

Hampton maintained 13 clean sheets in 22 league games as Chelsea went undefeated and won the Women’s Super League last season, before the Mary Years after that – I retired from international soccer – As goalkeeper for England’s first choice.

England vs Sweden: Women’s Euro Quarter Final 2025

Swedish captain Kosobale Aslani and Arsenal’s forward Stina Black Stenius collided in the miserable half of the first half of the UK in Zurich. There, Lucy Bronze hit the slot with 11 minutes left on Chloe Kelly’s cross and 19-year-old replacement Michelle Aggieman pounding the slot two minutes away.

“We want the game to not go to penalty and it gives everyone extra stress,” Hampton said.

“We said at halftime, ‘We don’t want to go home and it’s up to us to turn the game around. We’ll put 100% effort on our team.’ We’re happy they got stuck together. ”

Sarina Wigman: Penalty “Crazy”

Vigman, the England manager who won the final two editions of the tournament as manager of England and the Netherlands, said Hampton “made a difference.”

“We know she’s a very talented keeper. She also showed that during the game even with a penalty shootout,” Wigman recalls the decider who missed a spot kick with nine players.

“It was a dramatic night. It was a very emotional night, going from left to right. We were really struggling down 2-0, but we fought back into the game and our team showed so much resilience.

“We went 2-2 and then went for the extra time and there were injuries and some cramps, so it was really tough and we got shot with this penalty.

“It was so crazy. I thought we were out three times, so they missed it again. In the end, we scored one or more points than them.”

Women’s Euro 2025: Bronze Bronze Brench

Chelsea’s right-back bronze, who won the 2022 final and was part of the team to reach the 2023 World Cup final, will be called the game “So Fourforming.”

“Sweden was incredible. Honestly, both teams deserve to be through,” he told 33-year-old womenenseuro.com.

“We didn’t start very well. They were really strong in the game, but how to win to finish the way we did with a penalty shootout when it was suddenly dying.

“Scoring in the game, I was with ecs. That’s what I know I can bring to this team. We can bring energy whenever we’re short on.

“I don’t know about the penalties. I’ve never taken a penalty on England (previously), but I knew I had to step up to take it because I know my abilities and Hannah’s confidence as a goalkeeper.

“As long as I play, we’ve always reached the semi-finals, so not getting there was no disappointment.”

Sweden had a team to win the Euro 2025 Euro

England faces an Italian surprise package at Stade de Geneve on Tuesday (20:00 BST), but Sweden’s winning run against Denmark, Poland and Germany ended in a brutal way.

“I just feel empty,” London City Lioness pushed Aslani forward. “We scored two early goals and were advocating well.

“We created opportunities so we don’t know what went wrong in the minutes of scoring two quick goals.

“I don’t know what to say. We had a team to win this tournament. We can’t take in what just happened.”

Women’s Euro 2025 Quarterfinals

Spain will meet with Switzerland in Bern on Friday, while France will meet Germany in Basel on Saturday (both 8:00 p.m.) in the remaining quarterfinals.

“We played really well in the first half,” said Swedish manager Peter Gelhardson. “In the second half, we saw England push, and we didn’t want to pull back as much as we did, but we played against a very skilled opponent.

“We’re back in the extra time. They were tired and we were even more energetic. But that analysis is pointless for now. It’s depressing.

“That’s what this tournament is about,” Bronze proposed. “The two teams head straight ahead and then head towards the wire.”
