Defense Secretary Pete Hegses commanded on Monday. US military Returns the name of Fort Liberty to Fort Bragg, but adds a twist.

Hegses signed a memo on board the US Air Force C-17 before landing in Stuttgart, Germany, renaming the North Carolina base instead of the former Confederate general, Roland. He ordered the name to Fort L. Bragg.

“Yes. Bragg is back.” Heggs said After signing the note.

The military facility was renamed in 2023 as part of a wide range of Department of Defense initiatives. 2020 George Floyd’s protestrename the military facility with the names of Confederate soldiers.

The base was named in 1918 for General Braxton Bragg, a Confederate General of Warrenton, North Carolina.

The new name pays homage to the PFC. Roland L. Bragg, a World War II A hero who won Silver Star and Purple Heart for his exceptional courage during the Battle of the Bulge.

“In these hellish situations and fierce battles, the PFC. BRAGG commanded the enemy ambulance and drove 20 miles to drive the injured warrior to the Allied Hospital in Belgim. I did,” the memo said.

“This directive honors the personal courage and selfless service of all those trained to fight and win the wars of our nation, including Bragg, and follows the respected and celebratory history of the installation. I’m doing that,” the memo said.

In addition to bases in North Carolina, several other include the late Vice-General Hal Moore, commander of the Vietnam War, and the late Vice-General Hal Moore, and Fort Benning, home to Fort Moore to Fort Moore. The Army post has been renamed. Fort Hood At Fort Cabazos, named after General Richard Edward Cabazos, a four-star general who fought both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
