Here’s how all online maps handle the Gulf of Mexico renaming
When searching For information about the US Gulf of Mexico this week, you can map your website and see if familiar water bodies have new names or not, depending on the services you use.
These search results illustrate complications caused by various policies of technology companies to follow President Donald Trump Presidential Order This area of the Atlantic Ocean will be renamed “American Gulf.”
As of Tuesday morning, Google The Gulf of Mexico search returns the official Gulf of America knowledge panel to the top and completes a tile that shows the updated name of Google Maps.
Are you curious how other online maps respond? I did a search to find out. Google appears to be the first company to start using the US Gulf name in its major navigation services, but it is unclear whether other apps such as Apple Maps will follow suit. Update this list as companies may change their list in the Gulf of Mexico.
