“We were in Mumbai and we were playing against RCB at Wankede Stadium at Mumbai Indians. Both teams were staying in the same hotel. Many players were gathering at the bar after the match. Butler said on the podcast.

Butler went on to explain the moment he and his wife Louise finally met AB at the hotel bar. When they came in, AB was already there and casually asked what he wanted to drink. Butler ordered a beer, but was almost quiet and a little nervous in the presence of a cricket idol. Then, out of nowhere, Louise turned to AB and asked, “So, which part of New Zealand did you come from?”
Butler It was unclear. Internally, he panicked and wondered how to recover from awkward moments. He couldn’t believe it, one of South Africa’s most iconic sports figures, De Villiers, had just been mistaken for a New Zealander. That night, Butler went to bed. AB is convinced he will never talk to him again. Despite the confusion, he laughed in hindsight about it and praised De Villiers, who still calls him a great player.
“So we got there, and he was there – yeah, what do you want to drink? I’m drinking beer. I wasn’t saying much… I was a bit nervous, so Lou just said, “Ahhh, what part of New Zealand did you come from?” I heard it and said, “Oh, my god…” Is he even one of South Africa’s most famous sportsmen? But yeah, he’s a great player.” Buttler concluded.
