Honeywell Safety Technology installed in the 737 Fleet in Southwest


Southwest Airlines equips all of its Boeing 737 planes with new technology aimed at improving runway safety.

Smartrunway and Smartlanding via Honeywell have already been activated on more than 700 southwest aircraft, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies announced.

“Smartrunway and Smartlanding help to increase situational awareness among flight crews in taxis, and promote a stable approach by taking off, landing with auditory and visual alerts,” Honeywell said in a press release. “It will help you actively inform your pilots when they’re flying too fast or when they’re being directed towards the wrong runway and break a series of events that could lead to runway accidents.”

“Adding barriers to potentially bad outcomes is a really powerful tool,” Andrew Watterson, chief operating officer of Southwest, told the newspaper.

The move comes after several close calls at airports around the country.
