How to change the default app on your iPhone in 3 simple steps
Apple released it iOS 18.3 In January, that update brought some Bug fixes For iPhone. But when Apple was released iOS 18.2 In December, the update allowed us to easily change the default app on our iPhone.

The default app is the app that your iPhone automatically uses in certain situations. So, for example, if you tap on a phone number on a website, your iPhone will open the phone app and call that number. However, if you like to use another app for your phone, like WhatsApp, you can make that app the default call app for your iPhone.
Here’s how to change the default app on your iPhone:

1. open setting.
2. Tap App.
3. Tap Default App.
From this menu you can choose to change the various categories of the default apps on your iPhone. The categories that can be changed are as follows: Apple’s description Each.
App installation is not a category available in my area.
- Installing the app*: Select an alternative app marketplace instead of the app store you want to use as the default.
- Browser app: Select a different app instead of the Safari app you use when opening a link to a web page.
- phone: Choose another app instead of the phone app or Facetime app to make a call.
- Call filtering: Present your caller ID and select the app you want to use to block unnecessary callers.
- Contactless app*: Select another app to create contactless transactions using the device’s built-in technology.
- Email: Select another app instead of the email app you want to use when opening the link to send email.
- keyboard: Select the app to use for system-wide text entry functionality.
- Messaging: Select a different app instead of the messaging app you want to use when opening a link to send instant messages.
- Passwords and Codes: Select another app instead of the password app you want to use for password autofill for Safari and other apps.
*Available only in certain countries and regions.
You can change its default app by tapping on one of these categories. If you have not downloaded third-party apps on your iPhone due to a specific category, that category will not display Apple apps or anything.
Couldn’t you change the default app before?
In some cases, yes. When Apple is released iOS 14 In 2020, you can now change the default email and browser apps on your iPhone. You could also change some other categories before iOS 18.2 like on the keyboard, but the options were scattered throughout the settings.
With iOS 18.2, your iPhone collects these categories in one place, and updates add several other categories, such as messaging and calling.
