How to Use AI in Photoshop: Maximum Features and Expert Tips
AI tools in creative programs such as Photoshop are intended to speed up workflows, inspire inspiration, and provide more options when you feel stuck. Photoshop, along with other Adobe programs, has experienced the evolution of AI over the past few years. Now there are some generation AI features that you can use while editing in Photoshop.
As normal Photoshop users are at the heart of many taskbars and panels, they may already be familiar with some of these tools. But even amateur photo editors like me were able to easily find and use Photoshop’s AI tools. Like other editing software, it can take time to know the program and know if it’s best to use each tool. For example, the Generation Extension could be suitable for resizing photos, and became creative in the landscape using AI Sky’s replacement tool.
You can access tools for all kinds of Photoshop files, but I found it easiest to import your favorite photos yourself. Lightroom Album Because all my projects are synced to my Creative Cloud. I then edited it on my laptop and got a bigger screen.
When you first try to use any of these AI tools, Adobe agrees to the terms and conditions of its various AI services. How to create AI images in Photoshop
Adobe’s AI image model Firefly is available as a separate app and is embedded in Photoshop, making it the easiest to use. If you’ve already created it in Photoshop, here’s how to access Firefly:
- Open the Photoshop project. If you are using the latest version of PS, the context taskbar should include the option to say Generate an image. Otherwise:
- Go to editclick Generate image. You can also click on the image-like icon with arrows and glow on the left toolbar.
- Enter the prompt, specify the style, and upload the reference image.
- click Generate.
- Use the arrows on the taskbar below to use various variations:
Don’t be afraid to add many details when writing the prompt. Remember to put the most important elements first. You can check the AI images Prompt writing guide For more tips for better results.
If you don’t like the image, you can adjust the prompt and reference image by clicking on the Image pop-out window or the four square icons. You can also tap on the three vertical dots at the edge of the pinbar to provide generational feedback, remove backgrounds, and generate similar images. If you still don’t like what you have, I’m trying to tweak it endlessly and generate what I want to make it right, but start over from scratch with a new prompt I recommend.
How to use Generate Filling, Deployment, and Delete in Photoshop
You can also use the Generate AI tool to edit an existing project in Photoshop. Generation filling, deployment and removal are some of the most popular AI tools. Here’s how to use each:
Generated fill It’s like a miniaturized AI image generator and is one of the most popular AI tools in Photoshop. Generated filling creates a new design for a specific area in your project when you select a specific area and enter a text prompt. You can find the generated fill by going to Edit > Generation Fill. (Make sure you are using the Selection Brush tool.) Mark the area where you want to display the element, enter the prompt, and click (Generate).
Generation extension This is useful if you need more space in your image. You can create a new section of the image to seamlessly blend it with the current image, or enter a text prompt to create a new view. It can also be used to scale your project. To access the Generation Extension, select the Crop tool, pull out the canvas to any size as needed, enter a prompt if necessary, and click Generate.

Generate and delete It’s like an AI-SuperCharged Eraser. You can isolate and remove certain elements from your project without confusing the entire image. There are two ways to delete objects from your work. The first is to use the Select Object tool to select an object, click (generate fill) and place the word “delete” at the prompt. Alternatively, you can manually highlight the object you want to erase using the Delete tool (Spot Healing Tool > Delete Tool).

Other AI tools available in Photoshop
Replacement of the sky A cool AI tool that can bring some drama to your landscape. By editing and navigating the exchange of sky and choosing from a variety of options, you can create an alternative sky by featuring several colorful options labeled “Spectacular.” Once you have selected your favorite preset, you can manually adjust the brightness and other elements.
Here, I added some Carolina Blue Sky (right) to my original Kenan Stadium shot (left) using an AI Sky replacement.
Generate background Perfect for photo shoots of your product or other shots where the subject or object is the focus of the image. Upload the shot to Photoshop, remove the background from the context taskbar (the pinbox that pops up when you select a layer), and click (Generate background). Some of the backgrounds are better than others. The urban space I generated looked kind of fake, but it came out with a large colored or patterned background.
Depending on your project, there are a few other AI tools that may be suitable for you. Neural Filter Can be used for more detailed photo editing. Curvature pen It can help designers create a more consistent arc. We also hope to see more AI-powered editing tools introduced in Photoshop this year.
