HTL buys its fifth 3PL since 2021 and expands into the Reefer business
HTL Freight, a North Carolina-based acquisition 3PL that has recently purchased several brokerages, has purchased TS3 Logistics, a California-based refrigerated truck expert.
Of the five acquisitions HTL has made since its ownership change in 2021, this is the second largest purchase. The specific prices paid for TS3 have not been disclosed.
Left Lane Associates was an advisor to HTL on the acquisition. Left Train president Peter Stefanovic said in an email to FreightWaves that HTL has no extensive experience in the refrigerated and temperature-controlled cargo sector previously, and the acquisition of TS3 expands the company’s scope.
The HTL was purchased from the original management by Onu Okebie and Brian Boland, Stefanovich said. All acquisitions have come since then, he added, noting that the previous owners have not expanded the company through purchases.
This was my first time buying a HTL TS3 since. 3PL CTS logistics obtained 2024. That was the company’s biggest acquisition.
“In just four years, we have implemented five targeted acquisitions, each adding strength to the modality, geographic presence and operational depth of key services,” Okebie said in a prepared statement. “The move will expand into a critical temperature-controlled cargo sector, establishing bases on the West Coast to complement the southeast, northeast, midwest and southwest range.”
TS3 is integrated under the HTL banner. TS3 has 10 employees, and the acquisition will increase the total employment to 70, Stefanovich said.
Co-owner Borland, who is also the CFO of HTL, said TS3 “contributes to a strong service reputation, deep market knowledge and an entrepreneurial team.”
