“If things are correct, we’ll give it a try.”
Barcelona sports director Deco has indicated that the club is about to sign Nico Williams, and reports that the Spanish champion has agreed to personal terms with the Athletic Bilbao winger.
Spain International Williams has a release clause worth 58 million euros and is also linked to Bayern Munich and Arsenal.
However, according to a BBC report, he appears to be in good spirits with Williams and Barcelona, who agreed to a six-year deal.
However, Barca is still under strict financial control and it remains to be seen how Blaugrana, who has already signed Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, can sign Williams with Lariga.
However, Deco spoke openly about Williams’ potential deal in an interview with La Vangaldia.
“We need to strengthen our position,” Barca sports director Deco said of Barcelona’s wing options.
“We only have Ramin (Yarmar) and Rafinha as wingers as we don’t play Yamal and Rafinha, and if Yamal and Rafinha don’t play, the team’s level drops.
“There are some standards. First, players have to believe in the project. Nico didn’t happen last year, but for me the priority was Daniormo.
“It shows the desire to come both Nico and the other players. If the situation is correct, we will try.
“To sign a player, you have to follow the correct steps. In this case, everything is very clear. He has a (release) clause. After that, we’ll see how to see what the player and the club want.”
Williams has formed a friendship with Barca’s Startramin Yamal through exploits for Spain.
However, their affinity has not influenced Barca’s interest in Williams.
“It’s good that (Yamaru) is Nico’s friend, but this is not a friend’s club. We’ll come here and win,” Deco added.
“Last summer we had already seen Nico. He’s the name we’ve always had in mind. If they’re doing well, it’s even better.”
