Is it a problem with Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con? It could be your HDMI cable

With the Switch 2 continuing to sell millions for Nintendo, it’s not surprising that there are some issues with the console. However, what one problem Switch 2 owners are facing is actually just a problem with using the wrong cable.

reddit user I posted about their pleasure being disconnected when they are playing on Switch 2 while they are docked, the issue previously discovered is IGN. Luckily, it seems that using the HDMI cable that came with the Switch 2, not the old or slow ones, including the cable that came with the original Nintendo Switch, can solve the problem.

Nintendo laid out the solution Support page For when Joy-Con2 begins disconnecting from the console:

  • Make sure you connect the dock to the TV using a “super-fast” HDMI cable. If not super fast, the console will not function as expected when docking.
  • If you are using a different cable than the one provided with the console, you will need to print it on the cable as “ultra-fast”.
  • The HDMI cable that comes with the Nintendo Switch is not “super-fast” and should not be used on a Nintendo Switch 2 dock.

Nintendo did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the source of the issue.

Since the launch of the Switch 2, many gamers have come to realize that Nintendo’s new consoles are extremely noisy about what’s connected to the cable. This applies to HDMI and power cables as well.

The new and old switches share the same name, but do not share the same component. The Switch 2 is a major upgrade in graphics power across the 2017 console. This means you need a proper power source. Not providing enough power to your Switch 2 can cause some issues, especially if you need to do a lot of work to run the game.
